The Nature of Memory
Our brain creates memories to organize our experiences. Similar to how we organize file folders on a computer. If we do not have the right file, we create a new one. We remember events along with the emotional state we were in when we had the experience. Some experiences are so emotionally charged that it creates the flight or fight response. We are continually making meaning out of our experiences. By doing this, we are creating our belief systems about ourselves and life. The meanings we create from experiences influence the rest of our lives in important ways.
